When AFC Wimbledon lost 1-0 to Walsall in Saturday’s League Two match at Plough Lane, Johnnie Jackson thought his team was once again denied a significant penalty call.
Omar Bugiel looked to have been hauled over from behind in the opposition area in the 29th minute as the Dons were attempting to score the first goal.
Barely five minutes after ignoring a nearly identical foul on Bugiel just outside the penalty area, referee James Durkin did not see it that way and waved aside the home team’s requests for a penalty.
Nathan Lowe of Walsall would go on to give his team a slim victory by opening the score early in the second half.
Jackson declared, “It’s a penalty; he gets pushed in the back of the box.” For some reason, we simply don’t understand them, thus this is also becoming monotonous. I cannot recall when we last had one. There are some pretty apparent ones, like today, so I just don’t get why. “It was a tight game; you need those little things to go your way to get the result,” the player said.
“There are some things we can control, defend better, and take a chance when it presents itself, but there are other things that are clearly beyond our control.”Perhaps we need to up the ante. Not to be a picky squad, but we must consider that since we’re acquiring penalty shouts turned down all the time.”
