Why AFC Wimbledon star turns down new contract

Lee Brown has rejected a new contract offer from AFC Wimbledon, the South London Press understands.

Brown turned out 32 times for Johnnie Jackson’s side last season, featuring as a centre-back and left-back as the Dons recorded a 10th-placed finish in League Two.

He joined the South Londoners from Portsmouth in January 2022 and recorded 77 appearances in all competitions, picking up six assists along the way.

Ex-Bristol Rovers defender Brown assisted Ronan Curtis for the late winner in the 1-0 victory over Milton Keynes at Plough Lane in March.

Wimbledon confirmed in their retained list that they planned to offer Brown a new deal after releasing Alex Pearce, Harry Pell and Paul Kalambayi.

Since the Dons returned to preseason, Huseyin Biler has been seen in training. According to our source, the right-back is expected to turn off interest from Turkey in order to sign a new contract at Plough Lane.
