Ian Wright and Brentford manager Thomas Frank both believe that Kai Havertz, the goal scorer for Arsenal, ought to have received a second yellow card prior to scoring a game-winning goal against the Bees.
In the 86th minute, the German headed Arsenal ahead to secure what could prove to be a pivotal three points in the title fight. However, Frank claimed after the game that Havertz should not have been on the field to score the goal because he had already been sent off for elbowing the same player and had gone down in the box as a result of a challenge from Collins.
“I actually don’t think Havertz should have been on the pitch when he scored the goal,” Frank stated in a post-match statement. It seemed to me like a blatant dive in the penalty shout.
“The dive is evident if you look at that slowly. Although that might be challenging for the referee, the linesman might have noticed it.
We are going through a phase when we have to battle so hard to get stuff, and the gamers are working so hard—it’s amazing. As a result, you also need things to go your way, particularly those that are out of your control, like referee rulings.”
Even with his loyalty to Arsenal, Wright acknowledged that Havertz was fortunate to continue playing. He did, however, draw attention to another call made by VAR during the match that went against Arsenal, when Leandro Trossard was given a penalty shout.
On Match of the Day, the legendary player for Arsenal stated, “I have to agree with Thomas Frank, he probably shouldn’t have been on the pitch for that, but he was.” in reference to the winning goal.
“I think the assistant should have been doing more there, look,” he subsequently said. The helper need to be able to tell that you are aware. [VAR] They can’t award a yellow card because they’ve missed so many this season, yet they did not give one to [Leandro] Trossard when they hauled him back by the neck; they must have hurried to the loo at that precise moment.
Arsenal now sits atop the Premier League standings after their three-point victory over Liverpool on Sunday afternoon. With a higher goal differential than both teams, the Gunners are currently one point ahead of the Reds and two ahead of City.
