Aston Villa reports £120 million losses in latest accounts”

Football club Aston Villa has insisted it is operating within the financial rules of the English Premier League despite reporting a loss of £119.6 million (€139.8 million) in its latest accounts on Tuesday.

The squad qualified for the Europa Conference League by finishing seventh in the league during the period covered by the accounts, which end on May 31, 2023.

The Premier League’s profit and sustainability regulations, which allow losses of up to £105 million over three years, have already been broken by Everton and Nottingham Forest.

Everton was originally given a 10-point deduction, but it was lowered to six points after an appeal. In the upcoming weeks, both Everton and Forest may incur additional penalties.

Villa reported a £300,000 profit in its 2021–2022 financial statements, stating that the most recent results “are in line with the strategic business plan.”

The infrastructure, women’s team, academy, and foundation have accounted for a large portion of Villa’s spending, which can be subtracted from the PSR figures.

Pay increased to £194.2 million, or nearly £60 million.
