Aston Villa look determined to build on their strong start to the campaign in the January transfer market.
According to recent sources, Aston Villa is reportedly seeking to sign a midfield player in January who is willing to leave his current club.
Updates on Aston Villa: Williams blow, Vissel Kobe cooperation, Zaniolo meeting.
Italy international Nicolo Zaniolo is assisting the Italian Football Federation in their probe into possible illicit betting activities in Italy, the West Midlands-based club Aston Villa said on their official website. After meeting with Aston Villa club officials as well, Zaniolo is still eligible for selection under Unai Emery, and the Premier League team will not be commenting further on the situation.
In an effort to expand their global influence, Aston Villa has also announced a strategic partnership with Vissel Kobe, a Japanese team. Through this partnership, they hope to provide a platform for young Japanese players to pursue opportunities to develop in Europe and possibly play at Villa Park in the future. To officially formalise the connection, the J1 League team will send a group of personnel to Birmingham at the end of November. Additionally, as part of their journey to England, two of their Under-16 players will practise with Aston Villa’s youth team.
Aston Villa is reportedly interested in signing Athletic Club winger Nico Williams, and his current employers are reportedly looking to offer a new contract in an effort to keep the young player from departing in 2024. The Spain international has also been linked to Barcelona; however, he may now decide to commit to Athletic Club, decreasing the likelihood that Emery will be able to entice him to Villa Park.
Carlos Soler’s transfer to Aston Villa is updated.
Aston Villa’s president of football operations, Monchi, is reportedly focused on Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Carlos Soler, who is willing to leave the Parc des Princes during the January transfer window. This information comes from a transfer update published in Le Parisien. This season, the Spain international has been on the fringes of his current employers Brighton & Hove Albion and Valencia of La Liga.
Despite being a “majestic and complete footballer” according to Breaking The Lines in an analysis of his abilities at Valencia, Soler has only made seven appearances for Paris Saint-Germain in 2023–2024. He has struggled to establish himself as a regular fixture in Luis Enrique’s plans, recording one goal and one assist (Soler statistics – Transfermarkt). According to WhoScored, Soler is a tidy presence in the midfield and can be counted on to distribute possession efficiently.
Aston Villa is in a situation where they must balance their footballing aspirations in Europe and at home, and adding someone like Soler would increase Emery’s depth in the engine room.
