Latest Aston Villa news from BirminghamLive as Barca reportedly unimpressed with Clement Lenglet’s stint at Villa Park
According to reports, Clement Lenglet’s loan spell at Aston Villa is not helping Barcelona’s chances of offloading the defender in the summer.
The French international has only played 242 minutes of Premier League football, but he has started the previous three games to cover for the injured Pau Torres.
The defender is described as “another [deal] that becomes complicated” by Spanish publication Sport as he continues to struggle at Villa Park. Barca hoped that his loan stay at Villa would result in a “definite” sale.

“For the time being, this is not the case. “Lenglet, almost unprecedented in the Premier League this season, was unable to capitalise on Pau Torres’ discomfort to vindicate himself,” Sport adds. “Disastrous news for Barca’s aspirations in the market with a player who is one of the highest earners in the squad and who has a contract until 2026, but who is not in Xavi’s plans.”
Unai Emery praised Lenglet’s professionalism and said he was pleased with the player during a recent press conference. “He is a very good professional and we have been working with him every day to try to understand our style,” he added. “He was even coming in on days when the players were off to do extra work.”
“I’m speaking with Lenglet and conveying to him that I am very pleased with him.” I require him, as does the squad. We reached an agreement between the club and him to assist us. There is nothing about that relationship that has changed my mind.”
Villa do not have an option to buy the defender when his loan period ends in the summer.
