Even though Unai Emery’s team is only four points out of first place after nine games, former England star Trevor Steven thinks Aston Villa is not a title contender in the Premier League.
Since the Spanard’s October 2022 transfer from Villarreal to Villa Park, the Villans have undergone a metamorphosis under the direction of former Arsenal manager Emery.
Villa is now ranked fifth in the table and is participating in European football for the first time in more than ten years.
Steven has expressed his reservations about Villa’s ability to win the title, even if he has praised them for their outstanding 2023–24 campaign.
He thinks Villa’s team lacks the depth needed to contend for Premier League championships right now.
“As former European and English champions, the club has great heritage and Villa Park is a wonderful stadium,” Steven said to Cityam. “The selling of Jack Grealish has contributed to their financial stability. They have many advantages.
