Aston Villa transfer confirmed as Unai Emery sanctions deal’

Aston Villa news from BirminghamLive as Leadner Dendoncker completes loan switch to Napoli

Aston Villa midfielder Leander Dendoncker has joined Napoli on loan for the remainder of the season.

The Serie A side have an option to buy Dendoncker for around £8million after his loan expires at the end of the campaign. He has only started one Premier League game this season when Boubacar Kamara was serving a suspension and has featured another seven times off the bench towards the end of league games.

Dendoncker had made 14 appearances under Emery last term and started five times as the club managed to return to Europe with a seventh-placed finish. The 28-year-old joined Villa in the summer of 2022 from Wolverhampton Wanderers in a deal worth £13 million, but after less than 17 months at Villa Park, he appears to have played his last game for the club.

Tim Iroegbunam, who has only made one appearance this season, is now Kamara’s backup in the holding role. Iroegbunam was on loan at Queens Park Rangers last season and has missed the first few months of this season due to injury.
Meanwhile, Villa want to buy Morgan Rogers from Middlesbrough after two previous bids for the 21-year-old were turned down. This season, Villa has also kept an eye on Jonathan Rowe, a talented English attacker.
Villa are also looking for a custodian after third-choice Filip Marschall went on loan to MK Dons.
