Those of you with a more ‘glass-half full’ mindset may have concerns about a deal which could see Gauci become Aston Villa’s third signing of the January window, after fellow youngsters Kosta Nedejlkovic and Morgan Rogers.
Bosnich, however, sees the positives in Gauci sitting on the bench behind the masterful Emi Martinez, with the 23-year-old Aussie handed the opportunity to hone his not-inconsiderable talents alongside one of world football’s most complete glovesmen.
“Martinez is an innovator. He pulls off the saves. (For instance, in the round of 16 of the World Cup final, when playing Australia) Bosnich, who spent six years at Villa between stints at Manchester United, tells The Sydney Morning Herald, “That make the difference.”
“(Gauci) will have a fantastic opportunity to learn (from Martinez).”
It’s evident that they are considering having a great backup plan and making sure they hire one of the best goalkeepers in our area, if I may use that phrase.
For both Joe Gauci and Aston Villa, it’s an excellent investment. Go straight now (to Villa).
Competition for Emi Martinez
Gauci already has two caps for the Australian national team. The 6ft 4ins giant – who has earned his ‘Great Wall of Gauci’ moniker after a series of stand-out domestic displays – was also included in the A-League’s Team of the Year for 2022/23.
HITC Football is aware that he might be among the three people who arrive on deadline day. Adolescent left-back Lino Sousa is expected to sign for Arsenal together with £15 million Morgan Rogers, a former West Brom youth prospect.
According to The Sydney Morning Herald, Gauci’s transfer fee surpasses the £1.5 million that Celtic spent to sign winger Marco Tilio last summer, making him the most expensive export in the history of Australia’s premier division.
