Latest Aston Villa news from BirminghamLive brings you Ian Wright’s comments ahead of Premier League clash
Ian Wright believes Aston Villa can beat Manchester City at Villa Park tonight (8:15pm).
Unai Emery’s side will be searching for their 14th consecutive win on home soil this season. Villa Park has proved to be a fortress as they look to sustain their bid for Champions League football this term.
Pep Guardiola’s City meanwhile, are winless in their last three games which has seen them drop to third place in the table. No doubt they will be looking to bounce back at B6, but Wright has reiterated Villa are a very “solid” team.
“It’s very exciting, the Villa game because Villa from back to front, they look very solid,” Wright told the Premier League. “[Ezri] Konsa is having a fantastic season, Douglas Luiz and [Boubacar] Kamara as well. Leon Bailey the other day looked unbelievable and Ollie Watkins is now starting to score those goals and being that focal threat we believe he can be.
“All he needs to do for me, is score more consistently, just continually, score more goals because he looks very dangerous. It will be a game Aston Villa will fancy against Manchester City especially with no Rodri. If you can take the chances against City it brings a whole different City to you, simply because they’ll have to come forward and they will be leaving gaps.
“If you can take the half chance, you will beat City and this is what I’m believing this season, is that people are now believing something. Tottenham went there with a weaker side and said ‘you know what, we’re going to roll a dice’, they were unfortunate because they missed chances but in the end, it paid off. But that’s what teams have got to do against City, it’s going to be very exciting.”
