Medical booked’: Fabrizio Romano shares latest Aston Villa transfer update on £75k-per-week player’

According to Fabrizio Romano, the loan deal has been agreed between Napoli and Aston Villa for the 28-year-old midfielder.

He will have his physical on Wednesday, and according to the Daily Mail (print edition, 24 January), there is an option to make the move permanent for £7.6 million.

Romano, on the other hand, claims that Napoli is under no obligation to seek a deal for the Belgian midfielder after his loan period finishes.

“Leander Dendoncker to Napoli: here we go! Napoli and Aston Villa have agreed on a loan arrangement. Understand that the buy option provision in June will be worth €9 million and is not necessary. The Belgian midfielder’s medical is scheduled for Wednesday, according to Romano on X.

Dendoncker joined Villa from Wolves in the summer of 2022 and has played over 35 games for the club. This season, he has only made one Premier League start, thus it makes sense for Villa to cut his £75k-per week.

Need new signings.
The Belgian midfielder is under contract at Villa Park until 2026, but he does not appear to have a long-term future with the club.

Unai Emery does not appear to have enough faith in his abilities, and it is quite likely that he will leave the club permanently in the summer, either to Napoli or somewhere.

Meanwhile, we’re reaching the critical point of the January transfer window, and Villa should look to sign a couple players.

They’ve done quite well thus far, and with some excellent acquisitions, they could break into the top four this season. The Villans need to sign one or two strikers this month, including Chelsea’s Armando Broja, although they have yet to agree a deal to bring him to Villa Park.
