Sensational £52m Aston Villa and Chelsea swap deal ‘being considered’

The latest Premier League transfer news as Aston Villa and Chelsea ponder a £52 million swap deal.

It has been rumoured that Aston Villa and Chelsea are contemplating a dramatic trade before the January transfer window closes.

This month, the two teams have been pursuing each other’s strikers; Jhon Duran has been linked to a move to Stamford Bridge, while Armando Broja is expected to go to Villa Park. Straight sales have been challenging, though, as Chelsea has demanded about £35 million for Broja and Unai Emery isn’t too thrilled about losing the depth Duran offers.

Chelsea is willing to let Broja leave the team if Duran travels in the opposite direction, according to HITC Football, who claims an exchange deal is “on the cards” that will suit both parties. While Duran, who signed a £17 million contract to join the Villans from Chicago Fire last January, isn’t Emery’s favourite player, Villa are rumoured to “like Broja”.

Broja, a senior Albania international, has netted just eight Premier League goals to date but has shown glimpses of his high potential. Just six goals were netted during his loan at Southampton during the 2021-22 season but his hold-up play was particularly impressive.

Daran, meanwhile, is a full Colombia international and has scored four goals in 35 appearances for Villa, although many of these have been off the bench. Two years younger than Broja and a possesser of more pace, Duran probably has the higher ceiling of the two strikers but they’re fairly even on that front.
