Astros skipper Dusty Baker to retire after 26 seasons as MLB manager

It’s a career for Dusty Baker.

After 26 seasons as an MLB manager, the Houston Astros captain announced his retirement to USA TODAY Sports’ Bob Nightengale.

According to Nightengale, Baker is anticipated to publicly announce his retirement on Thursday during a press conference held at Minute Maid Park in Houston.

Baker told USA TODAY Sports, “I’m very grateful and thankful to [owner] Jim Crane and the Houston Astros for giving me this opportunity, and to win a championship.” “I felt like I was good for them, and they were good for me.”

According to Nightengale, Baker, 74, indicated a wish to carry on serving as an advisor for baseball.

“Baseball has been my life; I still have a lot to give,” Baker remarked. “I possess a lifetime of knowledge, much more than those who have never played the game.’’

Following an incredible four years in Houston, where he helped the team win back the World Series following a scandal involving sign-stealing, Baker has announced his retirement. Under Baker, Houston advanced to the ALCS each season, won the World Series in a row from 2021 to 2022, and finished first overall in the last season. This season, they appeared to be headed for a third consecutive World Series trip before blowing a 3-2 lead in the ALCS against the Texas Rangers.
