Braves Briefing: Reliever joins New York Mets

Pour one out for the Honky Tonk Man, who is now on the other side of the NL East rivalry

Following the addition of several relievers this offseason (Aaron Bummer, Reynaldo Lopez), the Atlanta Braves have seen some of last year’s relief options sign with other organisations.

Following the signing of reliever Kirby Yates with the Texas Rangers, reliever Michael Tonkin has found a new home with the New York Mets. It’s a one-year contract earning a rumoured $1 million.

Tonkin, 34, pitched 45 innings for Atlanta in 2023, going 7-3 with a 4.28 ERA. Tonkin, one of the major long relievers, tossed 80 innings with 75 strikeouts and 23 walks.
