The Braves will need to make some decisions immediately as the break is just over a week away.
The day following the conclusion of the World Series, players not committed to a contract for the 2024 campaign will become free agents.
Before other teams can deal with a free agent who was not on the squad in 2023, there is a 5-day grace period.
Teams must also choose their club, player, and/or mutual options over these five days. The Braves of 2023 who follow will either have options or be free agents.
2024 FREE AGENTS
- Kevin Pillar
- Joe Jimenez
- Jesse Chavez
- Ehire Adrianza
- Pierce Johnson
2024 OPTIONS
- Eddie Rosario: Club Option
- Brad Hand: Mutual Option
- Charlie Morton: Club Option
- Collin McHugh Club Option
- Kirby Yates: Club Option
It makes sense to discuss a return with Kevin Pillar if the Braves decide to exercise Eddie Rosario’s club option. However, if the Braves decide to pursue an everyday LFer, I’m not sure if Pillar would even want to stay around.
Rosario can be challenging. With three OAA (Statcast’s defensive metric, which is the one I trust the most), he had his finest defensive season while wearing a Braves uniform. He did, meanwhile, also have LARGE intervals of non-competitive ABs.
It would be difficult to decline the $9MM option at this time, though, unless the team truly intends to strengthen LF. The idea is that Pillar makes sense if the Braves choose to sign Eddie If the groupillar makes sense.
If the team grabs an everyday LFer, Pillar should look for employment elsewhere.
Jimenez was probably not the lights-out back end reliever that AA had in mind when he dealt Justyn-Henry Malloy for Jimenez, even if Malloy had a strong season with the organisation with a 21.2% BB-rate, a 15.2% K-rate, and 23 home runs.
Additionally, he performed several roles Oops i predict that AA will let Jimenez go free.
After that Uncle Charlie and Uncle Jesse will come back if they so want.
Ehire Adrianza will either sign a new MiLB contract with the team or move on.
They clearly value him in the organisation.Pierce Johnson is a thought-provoking choice, With a 6.4 K/BB rate, he was by far the Braves’ finest reliever in the latter part of the game. AA should attempt to re-sign him on a two-year contract with, a third-year club option, of course.
I don’t think McHugh will return to the Braves following a dismal season and a near-injury scare.
In 2024, Kirby Yates will undoubtedly be a member of this team.
Since mutual alternatives rarely work out, I anticipate that Hand will receive his release documents.
BRAVES ADDITIONS AND 40-MAN SUBTRACTIONS
The Braves will need to decide on nine players who are on the 60-day injured list after the World Series concludes and everything said above takes place. Yonny Chirinos, Kolby Allard, Dylan Lee, Nick Anderson, Tyler Matzek, Michael Soroka, Kyle Wright, Huascar Ynoa, and Sam Hilliard are those people. This is my estimate:
Kolby Allard, Yonny Chirinos, Nick Anderson, Michael Soroka, and Sam Hilliard were release .
The Braves will have some wiggle space for roster acquisitions after deducting those five, making the above option decisions, and probably letting go of peripheral guys like Andrew Velazquez, Allan Winans, and Jackson Stephens. I’m excited for the Hot Stove season.
