Ayr United to take on East Kilbride ahead of Celtic friendly

East Kilbride are set to welcome Scott Brown’s Ayr United side to K-Park this summer.

Mick Kennedy’s men are due to face The Honest Men on Tuesday, July 2 as they prepare for another crack at promotion from the fifth tier.

And the former Celtic and Scotland star’s Championship side will provide tough opposition for the Lowland League champions ahead of entering the Premier Sports League Cup later in the month, where they face more stern tests from Premiership side Aberdeen, Championship title hopefuls Airdrieonians and League One duo Dumbarton and Queen of the South.

Kilby will host the clash and it will come just a few days before Ayr are set to face Brown’s former side Celtic in a special match to celebrate the opening of a new stand at Ayr’s Somerset Park.

“We are playing Ayr United and that is scheduled for July 2,” stated Head Coach Kennedy. It will be a good test for us and it will be Scott’s team. With Ayr playing Celtic a few days later, I assume he will bring a mix of first team players and younger youngsters.

We are excited because we performed Ayr and Queen of the South at friednlies last year and they were well-prepared. After attempting to fit in one more friendly match, we’ll concentrate on the cup competitions.”
