Man charged with murder bid in Ayr flat after bloodbath sparks armed police response

A man has been charged in connection with attempted murder after a suspected stabbing inside an Ayr flat.

The 29-year-old was arrested following an incident on Friday, June 7.

Police were first called to a report of a 24-year-old man assaulted within a flat on Campion Court, Ayr around 10.30am.

Officers, including an armed response unit, raced to the scene and attended a flat in nearby Marguerite Place, where a 29-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident.

The 24-year-old was rushed to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.

Ayrshire Live understands that the man was treated for stab wounds.

Pictures taken from the scene on Friday resembled a bloodbath with traces of blood shown on a front door and step, and blood spotted on blinds next to an open window at another property.

Armed cops locked down the street and ordered frightened neighbours to ‘stay in their homes’ as they dealt with the incident.

Local primary school Kincaidston Primary and Early Years Centre were forced to sent out a message of reassurance to worried parents during the major response.

The 29-year-old man will appear in Ayr Sheriff Court on Monday

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 10.30am on Friday, June 7, police were called to a report of a 24-year-old man assaulted within a flat on Campion Court, Ayr.

“Officers attended and their enquiries led them to a flat in nearby Marguerite Place, where a 29-year-old man was arrested in connection with this incident.

“The injured 24-year-old man was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

“The 29-year-old man has now been charged in connection with an alleged attempted murder and is due to appear at Ayr Sheriff Court on Monday, June 10, 2024.
