A man’s body has been found in Ayr after police launched a ‘missing person’ search in the town.
A police appeal had been issued on Thursday morning to trace Robert Pirie, 55, who had been missing from the Craigstone Avenue area of the town since the early hours.
Police have now confirmed that a body was found at 1.15pm in a wooded area in the Holmston area of the town.
A police spokesperson said: “A formal identification has still to take place; however, we believe it to be 55-year-old Robert Pirie missing from Craigstone Avenue in Ayr.
“Officers have been liaising with Mr Pirie’s family.
“A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal. The death is not being treated as suspicious.”
