Two fighting for life after three-car crash closes Ayrshire road

TWO police officers were hurried to the hospital following a collision involving multiple vehicles on Glasgow’s busy M8 motorway.

After being called to a multi-vehicle crash in the east end of the city, emergency personnel raced to Junction 13 (Provan Interchange) on the motorway.

On Wednesday, July 24, just after 1:00 pm, according to the police, they learnt of the incident.

The force has now disclosed that three motors were involved in the collision, one of which was a police vehicle.

Although four people—two of whom were on-duty police officers—have been taken to the hospital for treatment, emergency personnel are still on the scene.

The eastbound carriageway of the road is still closed as a result of the collision, according to Traffic Scotland.

Road users are asked to stay away from the area and there are local diversions in place in the interim.

There are numerous emergency crews responding to the crash, including police, fire, and ambulance teams, in photos taken at the scene for The Glasgow Times and The National.

The three vehicles involved also appear to be seriously damaged.

As of right now, Police Scotland has not disclosed the entire scope of the incident or the extent to which officers who were on duty were involved.

Prior to the crash, the Scottish Ambulance Service had confirmed that they were present.

“The M8 in Glasgow is closed eastbound at J13 following a three-vehicle crash, which included a police car, which happened around 1.10pm on Wednesday, July 24,” a Police Scotland spokesperson stated.

“When emergency personnel arrived, two patients were transported by ambulance to Glasgow Royal Infirmary and Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, respectively.

Of those, two were police officers who were on duty.

“Local diversions are in place and road users are advised to avoid the area.”

“M8 – Junction 13,” a Traffic Scotland spokesman stated.

“Closed eastbound following a collision involving multiple vehicles.

“There are emergency services available. There are currently local diversions in place.”

“We were alerted at 1.12pm on Wednesday, July 24 to reports of a collision involving three vehicles on the M8 near junction 13 eastbound,” a Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson stated.

Five fire appliances were mobilised by operations control, and firefighters helped other emergency service providers on the scene.

The Scottish Ambulance Service took care of four casualties, and after making sure the area was secure, the crews left.
