Derby are second in the League One table and keen on securing automatic promotion this season.
Goalscoring has been an issue for Paul Warne’s side this season, with several of their forwards struggling with injuries.
Gayle was finally recruited by the Rams on a free transfer, and they are hopeful that his presence would aid them in their pursuit of promotion.
Collins made note of Derby’s injury crisis in the forward position, pointing out that four of their centre forwards—James Collins being the most recent—are out with injuries.
Additionally, the Derby squad’s recruitment of Gayle, a former Newcastle United forward, was praised as wonderful by the Barnsley manager.
Collins told the Barnsley Chronicle, “Dwight Gayle is a fantastic addition for Derby, as they have had injuries and a specific issue with their number nine.”
The Rams are scheduled to play Barnsley at Oakwell this coming weekend, and Warne may give Gayle his first Derby shirt opportunity against Collins’ team.
