Barnsley FC set sight on striker’s deal after signing of Walsall keeper

Smith, 22, is the club’s third summer window acquisition following the previous arrivals of Conor Hourihane and Marc Roberts, both promoted with the club to the Championship in 2015-16 and back for a second spell at Oakwell.

There is a further in the club’s favour to extend Smith’s deal. The custodian has joined for an undisclosed fee.

Former Walsall goalkeeper Jackson Smith has joined Sky Bet League One side Barnsley, following the expiration of his contract at the Poundland Bescot Stadium. 22-year-old Smith, who made thirty first-team appearances for the Saddlers last season, has penned a four-year contract at Oakwell and will be hoping to make an impact in the third tier as he begins his career away from WS1. As Jackson is under 24 and received an improved contract offer from the Saddlers, Walsall will receive some compensation with both clubs agreeing to keep the amount undisclosed.
