Barrow AFC bow to pressure as talented star leaves club

BARROW AFC attacker Ben Whitfield has agreed to join League One side Burton Albion.

Whitfield will leave Holker Street, according to the Bluebirds, who claim he wanted to play at a higher level but were unable to come to an agreement on a new contract.
He expressed his gratitude to Barrow AFC supporters on social media.
He stated on X (formerly Twitter): “Bluebirds… I want to express my gratitude for your tremendous support during the club’s previous two years. Throughout my stay at Barrow, you have always made me feel very welcome.

“I have had a great time working with the gaffer, Woodsy, and most importantly, performing for such wonderful supporters at Barrow. I hope the future holds nothing but the best for you. Whits34

Subject to EFL permission, the offensive midfielder signs a two-year contract to play with the Brewers.

Last season, he made 40 appearances for Barrow in all competitions and contributed 15 goals.
Whitfield claims he thought the move to Albion was too good to pass up, despite the Bluebirds’ best efforts to reach an agreement on a contract extension.

Whitfield discussed the relocation with the Burton Albion official website, saying, “I’m very happy. It’s something that’s been coming over the last few days and I’m delighted to get it over the line.

“Everything occurred so fast. My agency was approached by the club, and I didn’t hesitate to accept the attention.

“I’ve spent the majority of my career in League Two, so I’m looking to cherish this step up. I had a great season last time out, and I want to continue that here.”

Bendik Hareide, Sporting Director of Burton Albion, stated: “Ben contributes a lot of enthusiasm, ingenuity, and diligence to the team.”

He is an invaluable acquisition to Burton Albion because of his dribbling prowess, quickness, unwavering work ethic, and ability to score goals.
