Barrow AFC confirm new signing

BARROW AFC new boy Connor Mahoney is aiming to score and create goals in a blue and white shirt.

The winger’s contract with Huddersfield Town expired, and he signed a two-year contract with the Bluebirds.

The deft winger has played for teams like the Terriers, Blackburn Rovers, Birmingham City, and Millwall in the Championship for the majority of his playing career.

When asked what Bluebirds supporters may anticipate seeing, he responded, “An attacking winger who wants to get on the ball,” on the team’s official website.

In addition to trying to generate lots of opportunities and occasionally drop deep and attempt to dominate play, I also try to be a bit of a goal threat, and set pieces are really important to me.

“I suppose I just provide the team with a constructive outlet and act as a positive role model at the top end of the pitch.

“My goal is to return to my previous level of play from the previous season, score and create as many goals as I can, and help Barrow reach their desired destination.”

Mahoney spent the previous season on loan at Gillingham, where he contributed 13 goals while playing for Barrow manager Stephen Clemence.

And he acknowledges that reestablishing contact with the Bluebirds coach was a major factor in his decision to join the team.

“I’m thrilled to have come here and gotten the deal sorted, and I’m just excited for what the future holds now,” he continued.

It’s been working on it for a few weeks now. Of course, given my rapport with the gaffer (Clemence). We had the previous season together at Gillingham, and we have remained in touch ever since.

“We’ve been in communication over the past few weeks, and we’ve finally closed the deal.”It was important to me to come here and play because I knew what he expects of me and the squad, as well as what to anticipate from him personally and as a manager.

“I had a few more possibilities, but the coach and I had a candid conversation about our goals for this season—mine personally as well as the club’s.

The 27-year-old is now hopeful he can contribute to Barrow’s advancement.

“With a few more arrivals and a different style of play from the manager, perhaps we can get to where we want to go to by the end of the season, and hopefully it will be a successful one,” he said. “Obviously, last season they just lost out on the play-offs.
