Barrow AFC signs permanent deal

The versatile Meikle, who can play in midfield or out on the wing, signed when Tamworth released him. He was a fan favourite at Ilkeston for the majority of the previous season while on loan there.

The 33-year-old has a wealth of experience behind him. He played professionally for Mansfield Town, York City, and Macclesfield Town in addition to Barrow, Alfreton Town, Kettering Town, and Buxton. He made his debut as a teenager at Eastwood Town, where he was a teammate of Robins manager Ian Deakin.

Speaking to Ilkeston Town TV, Meikle said he was delighted to return.

He exclaimed, “I’m giddy.” It was frustrating that we missed the play-offs, as I thought we were improving towards the end of the season and had a chance to make a deep run. The boys had all welcomed me into the team last season, and I knew a couple of them from earlier.

“I’m glad to be back here, and my goal is to assist us in winning the league.
“Since Deaks only played in a few games the previous season, it’s excellent to have the team fighting together right away. Hopefully, this will show by the conclusion of the season.

We’ll get some solid games in and hopefully start the new season with a bang. The preseason will be demanding, but I’m used to it by now. You get what you put in.

On Saturday, July 6, the Robins welcome Hallam FC to start their preseason campaign. The game is scheduled to begin at 1pm to accommodate England’s Euro 2024 quarterfinal later in the day.
