Disappointing statement from Barrow Boss

Barrow’s depressing 1-1 draw with Mansfield Town completed a run of poor performance under Pete Wild. Prior to the dramatic events of the final day, the Cumbrian team had been in the play-off position since November 2023.

Before losing to Morecambe on April 1, Wild’s team had only lost eight league games this season, making them seem hard to beat. Barrow did not win a single game between their 2-1 loss at the Mazuma Mobile Stadium and their match against the Stags on the final day. This terrible run of form has unavoidably cost them a spot in the play-offs.

The Cumbrian team’s star player of the year, Kian Spence, gave his team a lifeline against Mansfield in the 58th minute with an equaliser. The home team will understandably be devastated because they were unable to take advantage of this good fortune and lost out on the chance to finish in fifth place, a spot they had occupied for the majority of the season.

Notwithstanding this surrender, which results in Barrow’s defeat in April, Wild has made remarks regarding the evident upward trajectory his team has been following since his arrival in June 2022. Following their 2019–20 season promotion from the National League to the EFL, the Barrow-in-furness team came dangerously close to being demoted back to non-league football twice. Following consecutive finishes of 21st and 22nd, the former FC Halifax Town manager was brought in and led his team to ninth place in his first season; he has demonstrably improved this year.
