Leverkusen have reached a verbal agreement with the 31-year-old who will join on a six-month loan. The loan agreement also has a buy option worth €8m. Leverkusen head coach Xabi Alonso was pushing to sign the striker.
Iglesias will be a much-needed alternative for Leverkusen’s attack as they juggle the Bundesliga, DFB Pokal and Europa League. After Leverkusen’s 3-2 win against RB Leipzig at the weekend it was apparent that they needed another striker as Patrick Schick has struggled in the first two games after the winter break and the injury to Victor Boniface means that Leverkusen will no longer need to rely solely on the Czech international.
This season, Iglesias has struggled for game time at Betis however, last season the 31-year-old was a reliable goalscorer for Betis as he scored 15 goals in 35 games for the team as they finished sixth in La Liga.
