Following the annual judging day, held in Dunfermline, Beith-based Irvines Bakers and Confectioners, has secured a place on the shortlist for the top gong after wowing the judges
Bakers are asked to put forward up to 12 of their star products to be taste tested by 50 industry experts with 580 products delivered for the judges to assess for appearance, the quality of the bake and taste.
This year’s crop of entries comprises the “best bakes” from about sixty bakers around the nation. There are awards for the best individual cakes, biscuits, scones, loaves, savoury dishes, morning rolls, and pastries in the French and Danish styles, as well as free-from bread, biscuits, and cakes. The grand prize, of course, is to be named Scottish Baker of the Year.
Lesley Cameron, the Chief Executive of Scottish Bakers, the organisation that organises the competition, says, “With nearly 600 products entered, reaching the shortlist of this competition really is something to be very proud of.”
“We strive hard every day to provide Scottish bakers with an opportunity to excel and demonstrate their creativity and abilities, and this competition is an essential component of that.” Thus, when the rewards are announced in May, we sincerely hope that all of our shortlisted applicants will have the greatest of luck.
The winners will be announced at a Gala dinner at the Hilton in Glasgow on May 11.
