Kelly Wilkinson, a mother of three from the Gold Coast, was found dead on Saturday in her Arundel home’s garden after being set on fire. Police have charged a man with murder in her death.
A neighbour reported a disturbance, and at around 6.40 am, Ms. Wilkinson’s body was discovered in a property in Spikes Court. This prompted the opening of a homicide investigation.
A 34-year-old man from Logan’s New Beith neighbourhood was accused by police on Saturday night of murder and violating a domestic abuse order.
In his absence, the charges were scheduled to be submitted to the Magistrates Court on Monday for the guy, who is still hospitalised under police guard.
The 27-year-old’s identity is still being officially identified, according to a police spokesman, and this process could take some time. Nevertheless, Ms. Wilkinson’s family members confirmed her identify to Brisbane Times. The address belonged to her.
It was thought that three youngsters under the age of nine were present at the residence at the time.
Two blocks from the scene, on a Langer Place lawn, police discovered the man in a semi-conscious state.
He suffered burns and was transported to the hospital under police guard.

He stated that one of the avenues of investigation that the police were pursuing was if the man and the woman knew one another, possibly from a past connection.
The male individual is injured in several ways, some of which are burns. That is obviously relevant to the inquiry,” he remarked.
At this point, his condition is deemed significant; in addition to some burns on his hands, we think he may also have internal burns in his airways.
“The female person also has burn injuries, so we’re exploring the possibility of a connection between the two.”
Superintendent Ahearn stated that in order to ascertain what transpired, police were performing a thorough forensic investigation of the scene.
“We’re just getting started. To learn more about that residence, who lives there, and what the motions were this morning, we’re canvassing the locals,” he stated.
“The children are currently under safe custody and will undoubtedly be interviewed.”
Police were not searching for any other persons of interest, according to Superintendent Ahearn.
The loss of Ms. Wilkinson has deeply unsettled the neighbourhood.
Sam O’Connor, a Bonney representative, stated that neighbours ought to support one another through this trying time.
“It has shocked all of us to have something so horrific happen on a quiet local street,” he wrote on Facebook.
“This will have a significant impact on a lot of families in our community, particularly everyone at Arundel State School.
“They will understand the gravity of this tragedy for those three young children who will live with this trauma and loss for the rest of their lives. Our community on the Gold Coast must unite and do everything in our power to support these children.”
