Later this month, a portion of one of North Ayrshire’s busiest commuter routes will be closed for part of the day.
For a week, the A737 in Beith between the Manrahead Roundabout and Glebe Road will be closed overnight to make room for necessary resurfacing work.
During the hours of closure, there will also be temporary traffic lights installed at both ends of the construction site.
Sunday, April 28 is when work will start, and it will end on Saturday, May 4. Every night from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., the closure will be in effect; however, on Wednesday, May 1, there won’t be any closure.
About 11,300 vehicles use this route every day, according to Amey, who is handling the work on behalf of Transport Scotland.
One of the primary commuter routes connecting North Ayrshire and Glasgow, and more specifically Glasgow Airport, is this road.
Amey continued, “The work will enhance the carriageway’s condition and lessen the need for future, more intensive maintenance.”
Road users will be instructed to follow the B7049 through Beith, where they can re-join the A737, as part of a signed diversion in place for the duration of the construction.
Throughout these works, access for emergency response vehicles will be preserved.
The plan will partially coincide with construction further down the A737, where Risk Brae, south of Howwood, will have 24-hour traffic control in place for the entire month of May.
Every programme is weather-dependent, and in the event of unfavourable weather, it may be cancelled or rescheduled.
