Police lunch Murder hunt after man stabbed to death in Beith

A MURDER hunt has been launched after a 22-year-old man was brutally stabbed in a street.

Lawrence McCall was found lying slumped and badly injured in Beith, Ayrshire following a disturbance, police said.

And in a separate incident, another 22-year-old man was yesterday fighting for his life after being stabbed at a birthday party in a Glasgow nightclub.

Yesterday, police in Ayrshire set up an incident room in Saltcoats as their probe into Lawrence’s death began

He was found in Meadowside, Beith, close to Cedar Avenue, shortly before 7pm on Thursday.

He died in Crosshouse Hospital, Kilmarnock, where a post mortem was carried out yesterday.

Detective Inspector Neil Robertson, who is leading the investigation, said: “I would appeal to anyone, including motorists, who were in Meadowside near Cedar Avenue or Elder Avenue between 6.15pm and 7pm on Thursday evening and who may have witnessed a disturbance to come forward.”

It happened around 9.30pm on Thursday as revellers gathered for a 21st birthday party in Byblos nightclub, Albion Street, Merchant City.

Detectives say a number of men may have been involved in the incident.

The 22-year-old victim, Chris Boyle, was rushed to the city’s Royal Infirmary.

He was slashed on the face and stabbed in the stomach during the savage attack. Last night, hospital staff described his condition as “serious but stable”.

Detectives were believed to be studying CCTV images from the nightclub and the surrounding streets.

Detective Inspector Andy McWilliam said: “I would appeal to patrons who were in the nightclub, who may have any information regarding the incident and who have not already spoken to police, to come forward.”

The party was scrapped and the nightclub was cleared following the stabbing.

A spokesman for Byblos nightclub said only: “We have no comment to make at all.”

The party was for Lewis Patrick, of Jordanhill, Glasgow.
