Emergency services were called to Beith Road at around 2am on Saturday, November 9, following reports of a one-car crash. Medics rushed a 53-year-old man to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.
It is understood his vehicle caught fire. The blaze was extinguished by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.
The road, which was closed to allow police to carry out their investigation, reopened at around 7:50am. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Around 2am on Saturday, 9 November, officers attended a one-car crash on Beith Road in Johnstone.
“The Scottish Ambulance Service also attended and a 53-year-old man was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow where he was pronounced dead. The car caught fire and it was put out by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.
“The road was closed and re-opened around 7.50am. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
