Reasons why Marlies edge Senators in a dramatic game

The Toronto Marlies edged the Belleville Senators 4-3 in a shootout on Friday night.

Angus Crookshank, Keean Washkurak, and Oskar Pettersson scored for the Senators.

The Senators opened scoring late in the first period, with an unanswered goal giving them a one-point lead going into the second frame. In the second, the Senators quickly claimed another goal, before the Marlies came back for two of their own and tied the score. The Senators pushed back and grabbed one last goal in the second, reclaiming their lead before the third.

In the third period, the Marlies tied up the score again, and with no more goals from either team, the game went into overtime, then double overtime, before ending in a shootout where the Marlies took a final goal to tip the scales.

Belleville Sens Head Coach Dave Bell said that the team did well on penalty killing.

“I thought we had some stretches where we played pretty darn good,” said Coach Bell. “We worked on some things that I saw guys trying to do, and some guys did do, so that’s a positive. We have to clean up a couple of things that bit us here tonight, but overall I liked some stretches of the game.”

The Belleville Senators are back in action on Saturday night, hosting the Marlies at CAA Arena.
