Jay Stansfield has been given the green light to complete his season-long loan at Birmingham City.
Fulham have decided against recalling the 21-year-old, despite interest from a number of Championship clubs including promotion-chasing Ipswich Town. Stansfield will therefore be allowed to finish the season with Blues.
The forward is Blues’ top goalscorer this season with nine across all competitions, plus two assists in the Championship, and supporters at St Andrew’s have taken him to their hearts. Stansfield has scored two of his goals in the first three games of new manager Tony Mowbray’s tenure.
Mowbray even suggested he would like to sign Stansfield permanently after the 2-1 win at Stoke City last weekend. The Blues boss said: “I think we should definitely be in the market for (Stansfield) if there’s a number where he could definitely come and play here. I think he enjoys it that much.
“He would want to play in the Premier League if he thought he was going to play there, but I’m very sure he doesn’t want to sit on the bench; I’m sure he’d rather play in the Championship and score goals. It’s not our decision; it’s Fulham’s, but I know he’s enjoying it.”
