The latest Birmingham City news as women’s manager Darren Carter delivers his verdict on Wayne Rooney’s appointment

Wayne Rooney’s appointment has been hailed by Birmingham City hero and women’s manager Darren Carter, who believes it will only benefit the football team.

After John Eustace was fired last week, the Blues officially announced the hiring of the legendary player from Manchester United and Everton. Pundits were divided on the judgement, with Micah Richards and Chris Sutton being among those who questioned it.

In addition, Carter, a former Blues midfielder who is presently leading the women’s team in the Championship, commented on Rooney’s arrival and thought it was a good move for the team as they try to improve everywhere.

I haven’t yet met him or had a conversation with him. I’m confident that will occur fast,” Carter said to Birmingham Live. “I believe that having a player with Wayne Rooney’s stature and status—an icon—has reinforced for the football club what its owners want and how they plan to move it ahead.

“The group of coaches he hired has a wealth of collective expertise. I believe that all Birmingham City supporters are eager for the team to succeed in all spheres.

“Our academy, the boys’ academy, the women’s team, and the men’s team.” People like Wayne, who have achieved success throughout their careers and have a wealth of knowledge to share, will undoubtedly benefit the football team, in my opinion.

When the Blues play Middlesbrough at Riverside Stadium on Saturday afternoon, Rooney will be starting in goal for the first time. This will be the manager’s first English football match since leaving Derby County in the previous year.
