Latest Birmingham City news as players are told what to expect from Wayne Rooney after the former Man Utd striker was unveiled as manager
West Ham striker Michail Antonio has told Birmingham City players what they can expect from new boss Wayne Rooney.
Rooney was appointed Blues manager this week, replacing former head coach John Eustace. The former Man Utd and England striker is already hard at work, with his first match being a trip to Middlesbrough after the international break.
Before then, Antonio has shared the “one thing” Rooney “definitely” has, which is “massive in football”. It will be music to the ears of Blues fans, as they hope to see their team climb even higher up the Championship table.
“It all comes down to their coaching abilities and what they bring,” Antonio said on The Footballer’s Football Podcast. “You can be a superstar and an unbelievable player of your time, but unless you can get your point across and tell players what they actually need, it’s not going to help the team.
“But, what I have heard about him is that he has some qualities to him. I heard that one thing that he definitely has is good man management, and that’s massive in football. He makes the team want to die out on the pitch for him.”
Speaking this week about what he feels he can bring to the club, Rooney said: “I’m really excited about it. I feel as though I can bring a lot to Birmingham, and Birmingham can also bring a lot to me. It reminds me of Everton, in terms of a real working class background, the club means everything to the fans.
“To be part of that is something special to feel that from the fans, something I’ve felt as a player before. As a manager when you feel the emotion from the fans, it’s a really special feeling. I’m really looking forward to being a part of that.”
