Birmingham City;Alan Shearer speak with Jude Bellingham and agrees with Gary Lineker’s prediction after England heroics

Former Birmingham City midfielder and Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham has been tipped to captain his country in the near future

Gary Lineker believes former Birmingham City midfielder Jude Bellingham possesses all the right ingredients to become a future England captain.

The 20-year-old stole the show once again in The Three Lions’ 3-1 win over Italy on Tuesday evening, winning a penalty before providing a brilliant assist for Marcus Rashford to put Gareth Southgate’s side in front. The win saw England qualify for Euro 2024 in Germany next summer with two games to spare in what will be Bellingham’s third international tournament for his country.

The man leading this exciting crop of English talent into the tournament next season will be Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane. The 30-year-old has captained his country 64 times in his 86 appearances since his international debut in 2015, scoring 61 times and becoming England’s all-time international goal-scorer.

But looking beyond the era of Kane’s tenure as the skipper of the national team, former England striker Lineker believes former Blues star Bellingham is the ready made replacement to take the armband.

Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast, Lineker said: “I think Bellingham is in a great starting place. Obviously Harry Kane is the captain and he’s been brilliant at leading the team, but Jude is a natural leader isn’t he?

“He’s not only blessed with incredible ability and remarkable maturity for a man so young, he’s still only 20.

“He’s bossing things at Real Madrid, you can see him bossing things with England as well. He is the sort of play you can envisage leading England through an awfully long time.”
