Irish FA confirm decision on Birmingham City coach John O’Shea after manager exit

Latest Birmingham City news from BirminghamLive includes a significant update on Blues coach John O’Shea

Following manager Stephen Kenny’s exit from the Republic of Ireland national team, John O’Shea, the coach of Birmingham City, resigned from his role.

Prior to Kenny’s dismissal as manager on Wednesday, O’Shea served as his assistant coach. After six losses from eight qualifiers, Kenny’s failure to lead Ireland to Euro 2024 qualification came down to a 1-1 tie with New Zealand.

O’Shea, 42, a former defender for Manchester United, joined Kenny’s coaching staff earlier this year after spending three years assisting the under-21 team. O’Shea’s playing career saw him earn 118 caps for his nation.

Along with Ashley Cole, Carl Robinson, and Pete Shuttleworth, he became a member of Wayne Rooney’s backroom crew at the Blues last month. Permission to carry on coaching on the international level was granted to O’Shea and Cole, who oversee the England under-21 team.
