“Massive coup” – Birmingham City backed to secure Rangers transfer agreement

According to The Scottish Sun, Chris Davies is keen on signing the 31-year-old as part of the Blues’ transfer plans.

The Midlands outfit is aiming to build a team capable of fighting for promotion back to the Championship at the first attempt.

Goldson has recently fallen out of favour at Ibrox, so could be open to a move to St. Andrew’s despite having two years remaining on his current deal.

The centre-back featured in 30 of the team’s 38 league games last season, before a knee injury ended any chances of him returning to Philippe Clement’s side (all stats from Fbref).

Goldson signing would be welcome at Birmingham

FLW’s Birmingham fan pundit Mike Gibbs believes that Goldson would be a really strong addition to Davies’ side this summer.

However, he remains sceptical that a deal can be agreed just yet given the number of big name signings the club has already been linked with this summer.

“I think Connor Goldson would be a massive coup,” Gibbs told Football League World.

“Played 48 times for Rangers, think he’s 30 now, so he’s got a good few years ahead of him at a good level.

“I believe that adding him to our lineup alongside [Mike] Eerdhuijzen gives us an incredibly potent central defensive combination of players,” the player said.

Who knows if that’s realistic or not? Although there have been numerous rumors thus far that one would assume would be too good for a League One team to come to Birmingham, so far, not many of them have crossed the line.

“I believe the jury will be brutally honest till the contract connection is dry.

Having said that, both of the goalkeepers we added are at least Championship caliber, so we’re following Garry Cook’s advice and assembling a club that can compete in the Championship within League.

Connor Goldson’s importance to Rangers

During his seven years with the Rangers, Goldson has played a significant role in the first team.

Under Steven Gerrard, he was a constant in the team as they won the Scottish League title in 2021.

Additionally, the defender has gained experience competing in European football competitions, such as the Europa League and the Champions League.

However, Birmingham is considering a possible transfer, therefore his time with Rangers may be coming to an end very soon.

Goldson signing could be promising

Goldson’s age is a little concerning because, at 31, his physical prowess will begin to deteriorate.

In light of this, Birmingham should refrain from overspending in any transfer deal including Rangers.

Davies’ team may benefit from his presence if they can control expenses for the upcoming campaign.

The seasoned center back will provide a wealth of invaluable experience to a League One team, which should greatly aid the Blues in their pursuit of automatic promotion.
