Birmingham City new boy Andre Dozzell admits that Tony Mowbray blew him away with the depth of which he spoke about football when the two talked.
Dozzell has become Birmingham’s first signing of the winter transfer window and Mowbray’s first as Blues manager.
The midfielder has arrived at St Andrew’s on loan until the end of the season from QPR.
Dozzell, 24, brings significant Championship experience with him and has already turned out 25 times in the division this season.
The midfielder admits that speaking to Mowbray helped make up his mind about joining Birmingham.
The depth in which Mowbray spoke about football and the wavelength he was on were key for Dozzell.
“When I was talking to the Gaffer, that has just done it for me. How passionate he is, what he wants from me, he wants me to enjoy myself and I want to help the team get higher up the table, so I think it was best for me to come here”, Dozzell told Blues TV.
“We share the same values on a football pitch and share the same views.
“The way he was talking to me, for 20 minutes, the way he talks about football, I have never really heard someone talk in that sort of depth about football and how he sees me – that pushed it over the line.”
Now Dozzell will be looking to repay Mowbray’s faith on the pitch as the former Sunderland boss aims to drive Blues up the Championship standings.
Blues’ new number 16 is available for Mowbray to select against Stoke City on Saturday afternoon.
