Wayne Rooney’s January transfer plans made clearer as Birmingham City revelation emerges

According to reports, the Blues may have a quiet window of opportunity.

Middlesbrough defeated Birmingham City 1-0 on Wayne Rooney’s first game in charge of the team.
c scored the game-winning goal in the 88th minute as Middlesbrough dominated possession, shooting, and shots on target.
Rooney will be looking to buy a center-back and a striker in the forthcoming January transfer window, but these acquisitions should stay within the club’s budget and not be high-profile transactions.

Before major deals are completed, it might be necessary to let go of those who are supposedly under contract with the team, like Scott Hogan, Ivan Sunjic, and Neil Etheridge.

Wayne Rooney’s first game in charge of the Blues was a losing one on Saturday afternoon, following his takeover of Birmingham City during the international break.

Rooney’s Blues lost 1-0 away at Middlesbrough, where they went up against former Manchester United teammate Michael Carrick in the other dugout.

In the 88th minute of the match, Morgan Rogers scored the game’s winning goal, giving Boro a late three-point advantage.

One may argue that Middlesbrough earned their three points, since they had the upper hand in terms of possession, shots on goal, and attempts.

Due to the loss, Rooney’s Birmingham team is currently ranked seventh in the Championship.

The Birmingham City transfer news surfaced.
Naturally, we have to keep in mind that Wayne Rooney’s current team at St Andrews is one he took over from his former manager, John Eustace.

Indeed, Rooney’s next chance to add players of his own and begin molding the team is during the January transfer window. Nevertheless, it doesn’t seem like there will be any significant alterations during the winter season.

Alan Nixon of Patreon claims that before the team can “have a real go” at signings, three of its highest paid players will need to be let go.

The Blues have been having financial difficulties, according to Nixon, but they may be able to get by financially if they trade Ivan Sunjic, Neil Etheridge, and Scott Hogan at the end of the season. All three players have large contracts.

Nixon’s analysis indicates that Rooney won’t be able to completely overhaul the team until the following summer as a result of the aforementioned.

What are Birmingham City’s plans for Wayne Rooney’s January transfer?
Even though Rooney’s window may be calmer than anticipated, this does not imply the club won’t be doing any business at all.

For instance, Nixon discloses that when the January transfer window opens, the team would be focusing on two important positions.

The positions in question are striker and center back.

However, the club will need to pay these players within their means, so it’s unlikely that they’ll be major acquisitions.

Does Birmingham City require a striker and a center-back?
Considering that Blues are supposedly looking to add a center-back, the transfer coordinators at the team seem to have adopted a reasonable approach.

Birmingham City may use one more center-back if injuries were to occur as they now only have four senior options available.
