Blackburn reveal ‘administrative error’ new signing suspended..

The EFL has not accepted Duncan McGuire’s proposed loan move to Ewood Park, according to Blackburn Rovers. Late in the winter transfer window, Blackburn and Orlando City reached an agreement to sign the 23-year-old on loan. However, they later disclosed that the transfer and registration paperwork for the player were delayed due to a “administrative error.”

Duncan McGuire’s intended loan move from MLS team Orlando City to Blackburn Rovers has not been accepted by the EFL as of yet because the registration forms were filed after the 11 p.m. transfer deadline, according to a statement provided by Rovers.

“Every signed document had been completed by 10 p.m. on Thursday, February 1st; however, an administrative error prevented the forms from being processed in the allotted time.” Over the past few days, in-depth talks have been held with legal counsel and the pertinent football authorities in an attempt to find a swift and constructive solution to the issue.

The necessary documentation has been prepared by the club’s solicitors and given to the EFL Board, who will review the case on Thursday, February 8. Duncan McGuire has been granted permission by Orlando City to stay in the UK while the EFL Board makes a judgement. In the event that his registration is denied, he will travel back to the United States and rejoin his team before the 2024 MLS season begins.

In the event that the appeal is denied, Blackburn Rovers will work over the next few weeks to come to a pre-contract arrangement with Orlando City so that the player can formally join the team come summer transfer window 2024. At this point, the club will not be commenting further on the situation.

According to The Athletic, Blackburn mistakenly believed they had selected “submit paperwork” for McGuire’s move, but they had actually merely clicked “save,” and by that point, the deadline had already gone.

Therefore, McGuire will not be allowed to play for Jon Dahl Tomasson’s team this weekend against Stoke City, nor will he be able to play on February 27 when the team plays Newcastle United at Ewood Park in the FA Cup Fifth Round. More than 7,000 Magpies supporters will be in Lancashire to support Eddie Howe’s team.
