Blackburn Rovers have had a tough time with injuries this season. In fact, Tomasson has barely had a time where he’s had all his players to pick from.
This appears to be the case going into the New Year as well. Rovers face Hull City in their final game of 2023 on Friday night, and they will be without a number of players once again as they travel to Humberside.
Wharton has seen increased play recently as a result of back-up injuries. The 26-year-old had appeared in 10 of the previous 11 Championship games before missing the defeat to Huddersfield Town, and it has now been confirmed that he will be out for a while.
Wharton suffered an injury in the defeat to Watford before Christmas and will be out for ‘a couple of weeks’ as a result. Prior to the game, Blackburn Rovers spoke to the media boss Tomasson also confirmed Joe Rankin-Costello, Ryan Hedges, Tyrhys Dolan, Sam Gallagher and Aynsley Pears remain out, though the latter has been back in training again.
Injury problems persist
Blackburn Rovers will be hoping for better luck with injuries in 2024. There’s no denying that Tomasson’s recent performances have been subpar, but the lack of available players isn’t helping.
Wharton’s injury is just another setback for Rovers, so hopefully he recovers swiftly and without complications. The pairing of Hayden Carter and Dom Hyam was restored against Huddersfield, so maybe they can recover their early season standards.
As Blackburn Rovers look to halt a three-game losing streak against Hull, James Hill and Pat Gamble will be the additional options at the back.
