The goalkeeper has left Ewood Park after one season at the club. Wahlstedt signed a three-year deal with Rovers last summer after signing from Odd.
It’s understood that Rovers have recouped the six-figure transfer fee they spent on Wahlstedt 12 months ago. Given his difficult debut campaign, many supporters will see that as good business.
Whilst Wahlstedt showed the potential to be a good goalkeeper, he struggled to adapt to the physicality of English football. He wished the club well in a parting message on social media.
He posted on Instagram, saying, “I would like to say thank you to all the players, staff, and fans at @rovers.”
“I wish the club all the best in the future and hopefully this great club can get back to where it belongs.”
Stig Inge Bjørnebye, Sporting Director of AGF, stated: “We have been following Leonard for a long time, and we are not alone in this; he has been developing well as a goalie.
He is excellent with the ball and possesses good qualities down the line. We think he will be able to grow in our talented goalkeeping unit, which includes rising talent Jonathan Hutters and a reliable Jesper Hansen.
In order to compete with Aysnley Pears in the upcoming season, Rovers will now try to hire a new goalie. Tim Krul is on the club’s shortlist, according to a report published earlier this week by The Lancashire Telegraph.
John Ruddy has also been connected to the position, and John Eustace is probably partial to an experienced goalie. Rovers want to give their youthful team more leadership and experience.
