Southampton flop agreed sold to Blackburn in January transfer window

During the January transfer window, West Ham could sell struggling Southampton player Maxwel Cornet to Blackburn Rovers.

During the summer transfer window, Southampton acquired Maxwel Cornet on loan from West Ham United. Given that Cornet was thought to be Premier League calibre and just what Southampton needed in their comeback to the top division, it was considered a wise acquisition at the time.

It’s safe to conclude, though, that Cornet hasn’t been a beneficial addition to Southampton in recent months. This season, the Ivorian winger has only played 72 minutes of Premier League action.

Maxwel Cornet is anticipated to rejoin West Ham United during the January transfer window, per a report from 225foot. He will thereafter be moved on; Watford and Blackburn Rovers have expressed interest in signing him.

Cornet is someone Blackburn would like to sign permanently. Watford, though, might only be open to a loan. Therefore, West Ham’s position on Cornet and his future with the team will be revealed by the path they decide to take.

By their own standards, West Ham isn’t enjoying a great season. Although Julen Lopetegui is afforded more latitude than other managers because this is his first season as manager of the Hammers, the team really has to improve between now and the new year.

Maxwel Cornet’s time at Southampton cannot be nicely analysed. At St. Mary’s Stadium, he hasn’t been given nearly enough playing time to establish himself, but this is precisely  why his loan will be cut short.

One of the most obstinate managers is Russell Martin. This might work in his favour or against him. The Saints manager probably doesn’t think Cornet fits into his system in this instance.

Martin will not modify his approach to suit anyone, particularly a loaned player, as Southampton supporters are well aware.

We do, however, wish Cornet luck in his future pursuits.
