‘A difficult situation’ – Detail emerges over Tomasson’s before Blackburn Rovers exit

Blackburn Rovers saw Jon Dahl Tomasson depart in February but the Dane has now admitted he first held talks over the Sweden job before Christmas.

Early in February, Blackburn Rovers parted ways with Tomasson and promptly appointed John Eustace as his replacement. Throughout the months of his appointment, issues both on and off the pitch surfaced, and eventually a stay became intolerable.

The Danes, in spite of their difficulties in the Champions

hip this year, largely cut a popular figure at Ewood Park. Tomasson’s followers praised him for his candour and openness with the fan base, despite the ownership’s lack of similar qualities.

Tomasson was previously connected to the position of manager of the Sweden national team, which he now holds.

The former Blackburn Rovers manager has now acknowledged that discussions about accepting the position took place before Christmas. Speaking with the Swedish publication Aftonbladet, he stated (quotes via Sport Witness):

Looking to the future

There’s no denying that Blackburn Rovers was in a difficult condition, as Tomasson himself stated. They experienced three failed transfers during his tenure, the most recent involving Duncan McGuire turning into a well reported and, to be honest, embarrassing tale.

Tomasson’s transfer budget was cut in the summer, which once again put him in a difficult recruiting situation.

It became evident that everyone involved required a change in management. The club and previous boss are now focused on the future.

Blackburn Rovers, who are presently ranked 16th, will be seeking to ensure that they remain in the Championship under Eustace. Tomasson, on the other hand, will be preparing for his first Sweden matches later this month, starting with Portugal.
