Blackburn Rovers are looking to bolster their attacking department before the January transfer window closes and have reportedly ‘made an offer’ for a player in Belgium.
According to French outlet Foot Mercato, the former Premier League champions have submitted an offer for RAAL La Louviere winger Vicky Kiankaulua, although the report doesn’t mention the exact amount put on the table by the Riversiders.
Furthermore, the outlet are claiming that Blackburn Rovers face stiff competition for the 22-year-old from Belgian giants Anderlecht and Sporting Charleroi who are also keen to sign the ex-Guingamp forward.
Kiankaulua has made 20 appearances in all competitions for the third-division side this season in Belgium and has scored three goals but has been garnering interest from clubs in the top-flight and the Lancashire outfit in England’s second tier.
Meanwhile, a deal for Crewe Alexandra’s centre-back Connor O’Riordan has stalled in recent weeks. It was reported by the Lancashire Telegraph that Blackburn Rovers were looking to sign the Irish defender before the window slams shut, alongside Blackpool and rivals Preston North End.
The Lancashire club had reportedly activated O’Riordan’s £500,000 release clause as head coach Jon Dahl Tomasson is hoping to add depth and quality to his backline, having conceded more goals than any other side in the Championship this term.
Nevertheless, a move has stalled as Blackburn want to pay the transfer fee in instalments which Crewe Alexandra are not willing to accept, meaning a move for the 20-year-old looks unlikely before next Monday.
Writer’s View
Scoring goals doesn’t seem to be much of an issue for Blackburn Rovers this season. Tomasson’s side have always been solid going forward and have scored more goals this term than Sunderland and West Bromwich Albion.
Nevertheless, Kiankaulua could be a decent acquisition for the club to develop him into a better player within the coming season or two. At least the recruitment department are trying to think outside the box.
