Tragedy in Blackpool as man’s body pulled from sea

The body of a man has been pulled from the sea in Blackpool.

Emergency crews were called to the scene close to the South Pier at around 7.30pm last night (May 4) following reports of a body in the water. Police, paramedics and HM Coastguard responded, as well as the RNLI crew.

A police cordon was put in place on the promenade, with people urged to keep away from the area. Sadly, the body of a man – aged in his 40s – was found in the water.

He was pronounced dead on the scene. Lancashire Police said his family have been informed.

There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding his death. A file will be passed to the local coroner.

In a statement, a Lancashire Police spokesperson said: “We were called to a report of a body in the sea near to the South Pier in Blackpool, at around 7:30pm yesterday (May 1, 2024). Sadly, the body of a man in his 40s was found.

“He was declared dead at the spot despite the emergency services’ best attempts. His family has been notified, and during this trying time, our thoughts are with them.

“There is no reason to suspect the man’s death. The coroner will receive a file in due course.”
