Potentially somewhat of a surprise to some, but the club are deciding to stick with manager Neil Critchley even after a slightly disappointing season. The manager did however take them up during the 2020/21 season via the play-offs and having that promotion on his cv does aid his case.
The Tangerines finished seventh in the league and were just three points out of the play-offs, so they weren’t quite far from their objective, but it felt like a season of wasted potential. The objective will remain the same once more. A trip back to the Championship.
After being relegated from the Championship in the 2022–2023 season, the club will play in the third division the following season. Critchley is aware that changes must be made if the team is to compete in what appears to be an extremely competitive League One. Expect a number of stars to walk through Bloomfield Road this summer as the team looks to rebuild, with many departures announced.
The Northern Echo has revealed that the Tangerines are particularly interested in Middlesbrough player Hayden Coulson, suggesting that they may not be too far off from securing one of their summer transfer targets. The defender is mostly out of favor at Boro and appears likely to be departing the Riverside this summer.
In actuality, Coulson would play with Blackpool for the second half of the season and made an impression there. It might be time for the left-back to go permanently at this point, since multiple further loans are expected before that one. With regular playing time, it might be a good landing location for the 25-year-old after a successful loan with the Tangerines. It’s clear that Critchley likes the defender.
