Blue Jays announce roster moves ends…

Stay tuned for updates on the Blue Jays’ injuries and roster changes during the summer. Reminder: Following the World Series, players on the 60-day injured list have to be added back to the 40-man roster.

B Danny Jansen (fractured middle finger on right hand)
The Blue Jays were unable to provide Jansen the opportunity to return later in the postseason, even though he was starting to step up his baseball activity. There are no long-term issues with Jansen’s fractured finger, and it is anticipated that he will recover completely in time for spring training. Despite Jansen’s unlucky history with injuries—he too frequently loses out on foul tips or unfortunate bounces—he demonstrated in 2023 that he possesses the skills necessary to rank among the MLB’s top offensive catchers when he’s on the field. Adam Cimber, RHP (impingement of the right shoulder)
Return anticipated: 2024
On September 16, Cimber made his Triple-A Buffalo debut and allowed just one run on two hits and one strikeout in one inning. It was his first pitching appearance in almost three months. (Updated as of September 17)

RHP Hagen Danner (strain to the left side)
Return anticipated: 2024
Danner recorded the first out of his Major League career and left the Blue Jays’ game against the Cubs on August 11. The next day, with a left oblique injury, he was put on the IL. Danner’s season was essentially ended when he was placed on the 60-day injured list on September 1st in order to create space on the 40-man roster due to roster expansion. (Recent update: September 1)

OF/INF Otto Lopez (oblique strain to the left)
Return anticipated: 2024
Lopez, ranked No. 14 by MLB Pipeline for the Blue Jays, was at bat.At Triple-A Buffalo, he batted 251 with a.637 OPS, two home runs, and 31 RBIs before being placed on the 60-day injured list on August 1 due to a left oblique strain. The 24-year-old hasn’t played in any Major League games in 2023, but the Blue Jays may still benefit from his positional versatility as a major league-ready backup option. (Recent update: August 1)
