Man arrested after crash leaves woman with ‘life changing injury’

Around 7.30 p.m. on March 4, Greater Manchester Police were called to Derby Street.

A 22-year-old male was detained after being taken into custody on suspicion of seriously hurting someone while driving recklessly.

According to police, a woman was struck by a guy driving a Vauxhall Insignia while she was crossing the street at a traffic light. The woman suffered injuries that may require surgery.

Greater Manchester Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit is now appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.

The force says it is also keen to speak to anyone who may have any footage, including dashcam, CCTV, or mobile phone footage from the area in the moments leading up to the collision.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 0161 856 4741, quoting log number 3294 of 04/03/2024.

Information can also be shared on GMP’s LiveChat on its website, or anonymously through Crimestoppers through 0800 555 111.

A North West Ambulance Spokesperson said: “North West Ambulance Service was called at 19:30 on 4 March to reports of a road traffic accident involving a vehicle and a pedestrian on Derby Street, Bolton.

We sent multiple resources to the scene including a response vehicle, an ambulance, and a senior clinician. One patient, a woman, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.”

Last night, a police cordon was set up following the crash – with a Bolton councillor advising people to avoid the area.

Cllr. Rabiya Jiva stated yesterday evening: “The police and I are both aware of this incident.”

“I would kindly invite anyone who may have seen this occurrence to come forward and share their knowledge with the police.

“Please stay safe, stay away from the area, and allow the professionals to continue doing their jobs in the interim.”

Following the incident, people were seen talking to police officials inside the Sir Jason Kenny Centre and Monkey Express eatery.

Last night, the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service verified that it had not received a call on the event.
